Multisig: payments that need more than one key
From Vortex Wiki, the Vortex knowledge base
With multisig, no single key can move the money alone.
Definition
Multisig is a way of locking funds so that several keys must sign before they move. A common setup is two out of three.
Why it is used
Funds cannot be taken by one party acting alone, which reduces the damage from a single dishonest or hacked participant.
Practical limits
Multisig is more complex to set up, and mistakes in saving keys can make funds unrecoverable.
What to remember
The word multisig on a page does not prove the setup is real. Treat claims you cannot check with care.
